Fighting with Live Data

XVIII Airborne Corps’ Experience with Its Operational Data Teams

Modern warfare increasingly depends on decision speed enabled by real-time data. The XVIII Airborne Corps developed Operational Data Teams (ODTs) combining software development, data science, and AI/ML expertise to support command decisions. Through iterative experimentation, the Corps integrated ODTs into operational planning cycles to solve battlefield problems and deliver usable tools rapidly. A battle damage visualization capability demonstrated how live data improves situational awareness and targeting decisions. The study shows that multidisciplinary data teams, governance processes, and user-driven development enable decision dominance and are essential for future multi-domain operations and CJADC2 environments.
